Founders Team
Thomas Milner, Ph.D.
Co-founder & Chief Scientific Officer
One of the early investigators in photomedicine, Dr. Milner is a pioneer in introducing novel endogenous contrast mechanisms for optical tissue imaging. With 55 U.S. patents and five international patents licensed to six companies, he has significantly impacted the field. He developed novel catheters for intravascular imaging and co-invented the MasSpec Pen. As co-founder of CardioSpectra and Dermalucent, his patent royalties have exceeded $100 million. He has authored 190 peer-reviewed articles and eight book chapters.
Hector Torres, M.Sc.
Co-founder & CEO
A medical device commercialization expert, Mr. Torres has guided numerous biomedical companies from inception to market-ready solutions. His previous venture successfully implemented optical spectroscopy and electrical impedance solutions for cervical cancer detection in over 30,000 women. With over a decade of experience in healthcare solution commercialization, he continues to mentor at the University of Texas Medical School's entrepreneurship program while leading Hemorai.
Dr. Haeri, MD
Co-founder & Chief Medical Officer
A combat veteran with 12 years of service in the US Army, Dr. Haeri is double board-certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology and MFM. His firsthand experience with acute hemorrhage on the front lines drove his passion for developing better detection solutions. He completed his residency at Georgetown University, fellowships at UNC Chapel Hill and UCLA, and now serves on the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine's Health Policy and Advocacy committee.

Tim Phillips, Ph.D.
Lead Mechanical Engineer
A mechanical engineer with a passion for design and manufacturing, Tim has driven the design process for numerous biomedical devices at Hemorai. His expertise spans from optical imaging systems to tissue harvesting probes and medical storage monitoring devices. As a researcher, Tim focuses on improving control for manufacturing systems and developing new functional materials for Additive Manufacturing, including lithium-ion battery materials, high-temperature ceramics, and high-strength implantable polymers.
Nitesh Katta, Ph.D.
Senior Electrical Engineer
With over 12 years in applied electrical engineering and 6 years in biomedical optics and fundamental laser-surgery research, Nitesh is a pioneer in his field. He developed bench-top and catheter systems for image-guided surgery for brain cancer tumor resection in in vivo xenograft murine models and is one of the early developers of precision in vivo laser surgery for brain cancer utilizing optical coherence tomography (OCT).
Austin McElroy, M.Sc.
Lead Software Architect
A research scientist with over 15 years of experience across circuit design, embedded systems, high-speed parallel computing, and machine learning. Austin's expertise extends to biomedical optics, imaging, and bio-signals such as EEG and EKG data acquisition. As a lead software architect, he has successfully managed NIH and NSF-funded projects, ensuring timely completion within budget constraints.

Clinical Research Advisor
A distinguished Women's Health Care Nurse Practitioner and research leader, Ashley Salazar brings extensive expertise in perinatal research and clinical care to Hemorai's advisory board. As the Director of the Perinatal Research Division at UTMB's Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, she oversees critical research initiatives while serving as a Project Manager for MFMU Research. Her educational background includes a Master of Science in Nursing from The University of Texas Medical Branch, where she specialized in Women's Health Care. With advanced certifications in Electronic Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring and Basic Ultrasound Training, she brings valuable clinical insights to maternal health monitoring. Her experience in early dating, trimester biometry, and amniotic fluid evaluation makes her an invaluable advisor for Hemorai's maternal health innovations.

His unique background combines clinical expertise as a former Associate Medical Director and Assistant Professor at UT Southwestern with strategic business acumen from his experience as Chief Clinical Strategy Officer at Access Physicians. Dr. Patel's expertise in scaling virtual physician groups and implementing innovative healthcare solutions, coupled with his understanding of both clinical and operational aspects of healthcare delivery, provides invaluable guidance for Hemorai's technology deployment and market strategy.

A distinguished physician-scientist specializing in Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Critical Care at UTMB Galveston, Dr. Saad brings unique expertise in high-risk obstetrics and critical care medicine. As Assistant Professor and Assistant MFM Fellowship Director, he leads crucial research in obstetric hemorrhage, preeclampsia, and coagulopathy.
